Boston TRACON Letter to Airmen: LTA-A90-39

Subject: Temporary Discontinuation of ATC Service at Portsmouth INTL Airport at Pease

Cancellation: 08/08/2026 1200 (UTC)

Please be advised that on June 19, 2026, the Portsmouth Air Traffic Control Tower (PSM ATCT) will temporarily cease air traffic control services due to construction. This shutdown is expected to last approximately 45 days.

During this closure, the KPSM Class D airspace will remain in effect; however, Class D air traffic services will not be available. In accordance with 14 CFR § 91.129(a), ATC will not require aircraft to establish or maintain two-way radio communications within the KPSM Class D airspace during this period.

The Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) will be 128.4MHz. Weather observation and reporting services will remain unaffected.

Boston Approach (A90) will maintain VHF communication coverage to the surface at KPSM on frequencies 125.05MHz and 125.825MHz.

VFR traffic arriving and departing KPSM should maintain heightened awareness for large and heavy turbojet aircraft. To request a VFR squawk code for radar advisories, contact Portsmouth Clearance Delivery on frequency 120.95MHz on the ground or Boston Approach on frequency 125.05MHz airborne.

IFR traffic arriving at KPSM should report their IFR cancellation in the air or on the ground with controller acknowledgment with Boston Approach on frequency 125.05MHz.

Pilots requesting an IFR clearance should contact Portsmouth Clearance Delivery on 120.95 MHz. If unable to contact Portsmouth Clearance Delivery, contact Boston Approach on 125.825 MHz. Pilots should expect to receive a Hold for Release with their IFR clearance and should contact Boston Approach on 125.05 MHz to obtain an IFR release.

For any operational questions or concerns, contact Boston Approach at 603-594-5551.
