Attention IFR Pilots Departing North Las Vegas Airport (KVGT):

Instances of improper execution of the Northtown Five (NOTWN5) SID from KVGT, including left turns to the LAS VOR or westbound departure deviations have been reported. To maintain safety and compliance, this advisory serves as a critical reminder of the procedural requirements and importance of proper adherence.

Overview

  • IFR pilots should expect the NOTWN5 SID when departing KVGT.
  • North Las Vegas Tower does not issue airborne vectors; pilots should follow the published departure procedure utilizing the most current chart publication.

Procedure Requirements

  1. Initial Turn (on heading 250° or 270°):
    • Turn RIGHT to intercept the LAS313° radial and track northwest bound (approximate heading 313°) to RUZCO.
  2. At RUZCO:
    • Turn RIGHT, intercept LAS VOR 320° radial southeast bound (approximate heading 140°), and continue climbing to the ATC-assigned altitude.

Pilot Responsibilities

  • Pilots are reminded to carefully review their clearance and ensure capability for full compliance with departure requirements.
  • Do not rely on third-party tools that may suggest unauthorized shortcuts. Always adhere to the published procedure.

Final Reminder

Properly interpreting and executing the NOTWN5 SID is critical to comply with FAA regulations and safeguard aviators from obstacles, terrain, and Harry Reid International Airport departures. Incorrect application compromises aviation safety and disrupts air traffic operations.
