A total solar eclipse will cross North America on Monday April 8, 2024.  The path (Eclipses nasa.gov) will impact the Burlington ATCT airspace from approximately 2:14 EDST – 4:37 EDST (1814z – 2014z)

This letter is to inform airmen of the possible air traffic impacts to the air space and airports within the local BTV area.

Based on data gathered from the August 21, 2017 event, there is predicted to be a significantly higher traffic volume than normal.  Pilots should anticipate delays during days leading up to, the day of and the days following the April 8, 2024 event.

Practice approaches & touch-and-go operations at BTV will be prohibited during this time.  Flight following services from BTV Approach are expected to be severely reduced including VFR aircraft requesting airborne IFR pickups.  BTV Class C services may be limited to landing and departing aircraft only.  

Pilots operating to and from non-towered airports within the path of totality should contact airport management for specific airport limitations. 

PBG IFR arrivals and departures may experience significant delays during peak traffic periods.

BTV Airport Parking for GA aircraft:  The airport has instituted a reservation system for parking on the days leading up to and for the day of the event.  A 24 Hour PPR (Prior Permission Required) is in effect for GA aircraft parking the day of April 8, 2024. (NOTAM will be published March 28, 2024) Pilots requesting to land and park at the airport for this event are required to call Heritage Aviation at 877-326-5288 or 802-863-3626 to make a reservation.  This will be a first come first serve system.  BTV GA parking is limited and expected to reach 100% capacity in the days leading up to April 8, 2024.

**Pilots arriving on April 8 without a reservation will have no parking or services available. **
