Subject: Corrections for DSM Airport Diagram
Cancellation: 10/13/2023 1200 (UTC)
An extensive change to the operation at DSM airport due to airport construction will begin on the evening of August 29 and last for approximately 34 days. In conjunction with this operational change, a new Airport Diagram was created depicting Runway 5/23 which was shortened on the northeast side and extended on the southwest side of the runway.
The airport diagram (dated 8/10/2023) omits the following (see attached image):
1) Taxiway P was extended southwest of P7. This taxiway is available for use by all aircraft.
2) Taxiway P8. P8 now connects taxiway P with the approach end of RY05 and is available for use by all aircraft.
3) Hotspot HS 4. Due to field geometry and extended sightlines from DSM ATCT, it is very difficult for controllers to see aircraft that are ready to depart. Pilots should use caution, take care to observe the hold short lines, and treat P8 as a Hot Spot.
Expect ATC to assign P8 and P as a taxiway route beyond P7. These are temporary modifications to the airport surface. The Airport Diagram will return to normal after construction is complete.
