Colorado Springs Tower Letter to Airmen: LTA-COS-11

Subject: Traffic Pattern Operations Between the Parallel Runways

Cancellation: 08/08/2025 1200 (UTC)

The intent of this letter is to inform all users that Colorado Springs Airport Traffic Control Tower will utilize the airspace between runways 17L/35R and 17R/35L to conduct traffic pattern operations. This practice allows controllers to maneuver pattern traffic to expedite itinerant operations, avoid wake turbulence, and avoid arrival/departure conflicts with runway 13/31.

Recommended Pilot Actions:

  1. Turn crosswind to position aircraft to fly directly over the terminal building on the down wind leg
  2. Align aircraft to fly downwind directly over taxiway November. This position allows 4250 feet (.78 miles) form either runway centerline. (See attachment)
  3. Be prepared to use either of the parallel runways. The aircraft is now in a downwind for either runway 17L/35R or 17R/35L
