Subject: Coordination for Special Activities Mission Support
Cancellation: 12/16/2024 1559 (UTC)
This letter informs airmen of the requirements for accommodating special activities within Las Vegas TRACON Airspace. Such activities include, but are not limited to: photo missions, aerial surveys and mapping, orbit areas, parachute jumps, special military operations and operations requiring a Certificate of Waiver or Authorization (COA). These requirements are necessary due to an increase in demand and in consideration of the complexities, volume and security concerns existing in Las Vegas airspace.
IFR mission support should be coordinated with Las Vegas TRACON at least seven (7) business days in advance. VFR missions should be coordinated at least five (5) business days in advance.
Forward all requests to the Las Vegas Traffic Management unit at 9-AWP-LAS-TMU@faa.gov
The following flight information is required: aircraft call sign, departure and arrival points, requested altitudes and estimated mission duration. Requests should include a depiction of the intended flight path on either a Jeppesen chart or US Government Flight Information Publication. The depicted route of flight should contain the latitude and longitude of each leg of the flight plan and a point of contact with telephone number(s).
Please note that receipt of a request does NOT constitute approval to conduct a special mission within Las Vegas airspace. Individuals initiating the request are responsible to obtain the necessary COA, when required, and coordinate with all air traffic and/or appropriate controlling agencies for Special Use Airspace affected by the mission. To the extent possible, Las Vegas TRACON will assist in identifying additional coordination requirements and provide contact information when requested.
Due to the impact that weather conditions and logistics have in planning, scheduling and delaying these types of activities, users are encouraged to pre-coordinate planned activity well in advance with Las Vegas TRACON. If delays occur, attempts will be made to accomplish internal coordination, retain the information and quickly obtain approval when the user is ready to begin.
Approval for special activities is subject to air traffic workload and traffic levels, however proper coordination can mitigate disruption of the activity.
