Danbury Tower Letter to Airmen: LTA-DXR-15

Subject: Voluntary Noise Abatement

Cancellation: 10/17/2024 1200 (UTC)

This Letter to Airmen identifies noise sensitive areas in the vicinity of Danbury Airport and describes procedures to minimize noise impact in these areas.  These recommended practices were identified in a Noise Compatibility Study, and we encourage your compliance with these practices.  Additionally this letter addresses a voluntary runway use program in support of noise abatement as identified in the Part 150 noise study. Voluntary cooperation may prevent the need for regulations on this subject.  Attachments 1 and 2 depict recommended departure paths to avoid close in noise sensitive areas.  Attachment 3 depicts all known noise sensitive areas within a five mile radius of Danbury Airport.

The following recommended procedures were identified in the Noise Compatibility Study:

Runway use determination: It is understood that many factors may be considered for determining runway use including weather, prevailing winds, runway length, aircraft performance characteristics  terrain and others. It has long been established that runway 17 is designated as the calm wind runway, and as it relates to noise abatement is considered the preferred runway when the following conditions exist:

1. Aircraft departing Runway 17 are not on an IFR flight plan.

2. The prevailing wind is calm or favoring Runway 17.

3. From sunrise to sunset.

General VFR Departure/Arrival Procedures:

  1. When departing runway 8, turn crosswind at or above 1200’ MSL.

See attachment 1.

  1. When departing runway 26, turn to crosswind as soon as possible, consistent with safe aircraft operation.  See attachment 1.

  1. When departing runway 17, turn crosswind south of the Lake Waubeeka community.  See attachment 2.

  1. When departing runway 35, turn crosswind at the Route 84 intersection.  Turn base for runway 35 south of the Lake Waubeeka community.  See attachment 2.

We are confident that you are concerned, as we are with the ecological and environmental conditions surrounding our airports.  Your help in this matter will aid in promoting a harmonious relationship with our airport neighbors.
