This letter is issued to inform all users that Salt Lake City Terminal Radar Approach Control (S56) will provide IFR separation, to the extent possible, to VFR aircraft executing practice instrument approaches at the locations listed below. A detailed explanation of ATC handling of practice instrument approaches is available in the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), paragraph 4-3-21. Controller responsibility for separation begins at the point where the approach clearance becomes effective and terminates at the missed approach point.

VFR aircraft are not automatically authorized to execute the published missed approach procedure. This authorization has to be specifically requested by the pilot and approved by the controller.
