New York Center                           Letter to Airmen No. LTA-KZNY-22-03

Subject:    VFR Practice Instrument Approaches to University Park Airport, State College PA, (KUNV)

Cancellation:  2407110359 UTC

Aircraft requesting to conduct visual flight rule, (VFR) practice instrument approaches at University Park Airport should contact New York Center on 118.55 MHz.

VFR practice instrument approaches are instrument approaches conducted in VFR conditions by aircraft not on an instrument flight rule, (IFR) flight plan.  New York Center will provide standard IFR separation between aircraft conducting VFR practice instrument approaches and other practice or successive instrument approaches and all other IFR aircraft.  Separation begins at the point where the approach clearance becomes effective and ends at the runway threshold.

Approach clearance to VFR aircraft practicing an instrument approach does not authorize the aircraft to fly the missed approach procedure.  Authorization to fly the missed approach should be requested by the pilot and approved by the controller.  When a missed approach has been approved, separation will be provided throughout the missed approach.

Controllers may withdraw or refuse authorization for practice approaches as traffic conditions require.
