Separation begins at the point the clearance for the practice approach is issued. Even though a controller is providing separation services, pilots on VFR flight plans are required to comply with visual flight rules contained in FAR 91.
Separation services are terminated when the aircraft passes the missed-approach point, begins a circle-to-land maneuver, crosses the runway threshold, or otherwise departs the published procedure – whichever occurs first. Aircraft previously approved to fly the published missed approach procedure will continue to receive separation services throughout the missed approach.
