The purpose of this letter is to inform all helicopter operators of the procedures for receiving clearances when departing Newark Airport.  This initiative is taken towards reducing frequency congestion on Ground Control during peak periods of traffic and especially when a Severe Weather Avoidance Plan (SWAP) is in effect.

Helicopters are encouraged to request all clearances (VFR, IFR, or SVFR) to depart Newark Airport with Clearance Delivery on 118.85.  This will not only reduce the Ground Controller’s workload, but it will help to expedite helicopter movements off the airport.
