The New York TRACON will provide separation and sequencing service for aircraft practicing instrument approaches at the following airports with operating control towers:  Teterboro, Danbury, Igor I. Sikorsky, Long Island MacArthur, Gabreski, Tweed-New Haven, Westchester County, Essex County, Morristown, Republic, Poughkeepsie, Stewart and Waterbury-Oxford.

This service is provided on a workload-permitting basis.  There may be occasions when, due to traffic volume, the controller may temporarily be unable to approve a practice approach or may withdraw a previous approval.  On these occasions, the controller will instruct the pilot to maintain VFR conditions and furnish an estimated time of resumption of this service.

Aircraft conducting practice instrument approaches will be afforded IFR separation when the controller issues the Approach Clearance.

When requesting a practice instrument approach, state type of aircraft, type of approach desired and how the approach will be terminated (full stop landing, touch-and-go, missed approach).

Clearance for a practice instrument approach does not constitute approval for execution of the missed approach procedure.  This approval has to be be specifically requested by the pilot and approved by the controller.

This program is not interpreted as relieving pilots of their responsibility to see and avoid other traffic operating in basic VFR weather conditions or to remain in weather conditions equal to or better than those specified in FAR 91.155.

The attached sheet is provided as a reference to determine the appropriate TRACON frequency to contact when requesting practice approaches.
