Subject: Practice Instrument Approaches

Cancellation: 03/01/2018 1200 (UTC)

In an effort to provide the highest level of service to the aviation community, Bangor Approach Control Provides IFR separation services to VFR aircraft conducting Practice Instrument Approaches.  Although not mandatory, these services are encouraged, and are available at the following airports:

  • Bangor International Airport (BGR) 118.925 / 239.3
  • Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport (BHB) 133.6 / 124.5 / 284.65
  • Belfast Municipal Airport (BST) 118.925 / 239.3
  • Dexter Regional Airport (1B0) 118.925 / 239.3
  • Dewitt Field Old Town MunicipalAirport (OLD) 118.925 / 239.3
  • Pittsfield Municipal Airport (2B7) 118.925 / 239.3

Pilots practicing instrument approaches, who wish to receive these services, should contact Bangor Approach on the appropriate frequency and convey their request.

Bangor Approach will provide separation services based on IFR standards except that 500' vertical separation will be used with non-heavy aircraft.  Separation services will BEGIN AT THE TIME THE APPROACH CLEARANCE IS ISSUED and end when the pilot reports terminating the approach.

Participating pilots are required by FAR part 91 to report terminating the approach procedure.  Also, this will preclude delaying IFR aircraft operating at these airports as a result of Bangor Approach initiating overdue aircraft procedures.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Bangor Tower at (207) 561-2521.
